We'll be getting fresh pears in a couple of weeks. These are THE pears, only they are not quite ripe yet. We'll make pear tarts, like our apple tarts, with frangipane filling and puff pastry.
We'll also make pear tart tatin, which is an upside-down tart with caramel. The recipes for both pastries will be in our new cookbook.
By the way, local photographer, Dave Crutchfield, is coming by this afternoon to take photos for the cookbook cover. You never know what works best, but we are thinking photos of two of our best customers, Dora and Irving, twins, who, at 18 months, have spent a larger percentage of their lives in our shop than any one else on earth (even me!). We're hoping to get them with their hands on the glass of the pastry case. Smiling, of course...
Dave took this photo last year, which we are thinking of using on the back cover. We do our cupcakes this way, piping roses on the top in various colors of buttercream.
The inside of the cookbook will feature drawings by Suzanne Gray. If you know her work, you know they will be funky, thoughtful, and humorous. You can see her work at the Renaissance Gallery across the street in Downtown Northport. Her studio is in Gordo.
Assuming we survive the photo shoot, we'll post previews tomorrow. Wish us luck.
